Catching Dreams...

Francesca Vannucci

A NATIVE AMERICAN LEGEND, THE DREAM CATCHER WILL FILTER OUT BAD DREAMS AND ONLY ALLOW GOOD THOUGHTS TO ENTER YOUR MIND. CALIFORNIA JEWELRY DESIGNERS JERRY FELS AND CURTIS FREILER APPLIED THEIR TECHNIQUE FOR DELICATE METAL WORK TO HOME DESIGN UNDER THE MONIKER C. JERE. THEIR WORK IS HAVING A RESURGENCE IN POPULARITY, AND THE INTRICATE DESIGNS HAVE BECOME COVETED COLLECTIBLES.

Sea Things

Francesca Vannucci

CHARLES AND RAY EAMES BELIEVED THAT SMALL OBJECTS WERE IMPORTANT TO A SENSE OF WELL-BEING AT HOME, AND THAT QUALITY AND CRAFTSMANSHIP OF EVEN THE MOST COMMON HOME ACCESSORIES IS ESSENTIAL. THE SEA MOTIF OF GOLD CREATURES FLOATING ON A BACKGROUND OF BLUE, WAS ORIGINALLY CREATED BY RAY EAMES FOR A TEXTILE CONTEST, AND WAS THEN USED IN 1944 FOR A SERIES OF TRAYS CREATED BY EAMES AND FELLOW DESIGNERS ALEXANDER GIRARD AND GEORGE NELSON.

INFLUENTIAL FIGURES OF 20TH CENTURY DESIGN, WITH A LEGACY THAT INCLUDES ICONIC FURNISHINGS AND ARCHITECTURE – IT’S THE ‘LITTLE THINGS’ THAT CAPTURE THE IMAGINATION, LIKE AN ORIGINAL ‘SEA THINGS’ TRAY, SO PERFECTLY SUMMER.

Easy on the Eyes...

Francesca Vannucci

OUR RARE Arredoluce ‘EYEBALL’ DESIGNED BY THE FOUNDER OF THE FAMED ITALIAN LIGHTING COMPANY - ANGELO LELLI. THE ADJUSTABLE PIECE CAN BE USED AS A TABLE LAMP, BUT IS EQUALLY AS STUNNING AS A PIECE OF SCULPTURAL ART. A MID-CENTURY TREASURE, KNOWN FOR ITS INCREDIBLE DESIGN AND ORIGINAL STYLE. cobra

Willy Guhl

Francesca Vannucci

TIME TO PLANT OUR GARDEN… AND WE PREFER TO DO IT IN WILLY GUHL’S CLASSIC SPINDEL PLANTER. THESE MID-CENTURY MODERN ICONS ADD ARCHITECTURAL INTEREST WITH THEIR PERFECT SYMMETRY AND DIABOLO SHAPE. AN INCREDIBLE PAIRNG FOR OUTDOORS OR IN.

Willy Guhl 4

“WE CAN MAKE ANYTHING WE WANT, WE JUST HAVE TO HAVE IDEAS.” ~ WILLY GUHL

WE LOVE THE INDUSTRIAL CHIC OF GUHL’S BALANCED SHAPES AND BEAUTIFULLY PATINATED CEMENT. BELOW A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE WILLY GUHL PIECES, LIKE HIS INFAMOUS ‘LOOP’ CHAIR.

A MODERN MIX

Francesca Vannucci

Showroom 1

ART DECO ACCENTS ARE PAIRED WITH THE SLEEK PLANES OF A MODERNIST CHAISE LOUNGE, ANCHORED BY OUR 19TH CENTURY FRENCH MIRROR. THE PRISMATIC SHAPE OF A BRUTALIST PARVINE CURIE SCULPTURE IN THE FOREGROUND IS A DRAMATIC PRESENCE.

Parvine Curie Sculpture

WITH AUSTERE PURITY IN THE FRAGMENTED FORMS AND GEOMETRIC SHAPES, PARVINE CURIE’S CREATIONS HAVE FEMININE WARMTH. PLASTER COVERED IN AN ENCAUSTIC BLACK FINISH - OUR SCULPTURE, IN THE STYLE OF CURIE, IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN A STUDY FOR A MUCH LARGER BRONZE. CURIE’S WORK IS AN ECSTATIC EXPRESSION OF HER LIFE EXPERIENCES.

Exposition Centre d'Art de Meudon - Curie

AN ELEGANT BALANCE OF NEUTRAL COLOR AND LEVEL PLANES, OUR PAIR OF MODERN CHAISE LOUNGES ARE VERSATILE PIECES, EASY AND LADYLIKE. UPHOLSTERED IN A CRÈME LINEN WITH MATCHING BOLSTER PILLOWS.

Pair of Modern Chaises

WITH VINTAGE MODERN FURNITURE QUICKLY BECOMING THE NEWEST FORM OF COLLECTIBLE ART, THIS PAIRING OFFERS A MUTED STATEMENT, VERSATILE IN THEIR TIMELESS APPEAL.

ART DECO AND 19TH CENTURY

THE ABOVE TRIO DISPLAYS A HARMONIOUS MIX OF ORNAMENTED ART DECO AND CLASSIC 19TH CENTURY STYLES… THE RICH HUE OF ROSEWOOD MAKES OUR SIMPLE SIDE TABLE A GRACEFUL ACCENT PIECE WHILE THE MINIMALIST NATURE OF OUR 19TH CENTURY FRENCH DIRECTOIRE MIRROR FEATURES THE ORIGINAL PATINATED GLASS.

Sunburst Ceramic Mirror

OUR SUNBURST MIRROR IS AN ICON OF THE DECO ERA, WITH GLAMOROUS EMBELLISHMENTS AND BLACK GLAZED CERAMIC. ALL ITEMS ARE AVAILABLE THROUGH ROARKmodern AND 1st DIBS.

PAOLO PIVA

Francesca Vannucci

LACQUERED METALLIC PYRAMIDS INTERSECT AND THE PARTIAL TRANSPARENCY OF THE PIECE LENDS ITSELF TO A SUGGESTIVELY GEOMETRIC AND MINIMALIST PRESENCE. PAOLO PIVA 2

THIS PAOLO PIVA TABLE IS AN ICONIC DESIGN MOST CLOSELY ASSOCIATED WITH THE ARTIST, IT IS A SLEEK AND GLAMOROUS NOD TO THE FUTURE WHILE STILL RECALLING THE ARCHITECTURAL AESTHETIC OF MODERNISM.

Czech Cubism 2

WE LOVE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE CLASSICAL AND CUBIST ARCHITECTURE - THE TRADITIONS OF DESIGN DISASSEMBLED IN THE ABSTRACT, CREATING AN ASYMMETRICALLY BEAUTIFUL JUXTAPOSITION.

THE PIVA TABLE STRONGLY RESEMBLES THE INNOVATIVE WORK OF THIS PERIOD. AVAILABLE THROUGH ROARK MODERN AND 1ST DIBS

Oscar Niemeyer

Francesca Vannucci

FROM AUSPICIOUS BEGINNINGS AS A DRAFTSMAN FOR LE CORBUSIER’S MINISTRY BUILDING IN RIO, OSCAR NIEMEYER WOVE A TALE OF MID-CENTURY IDEOLOGY THROUGH HIS WORK, HIS LIFE AND HIS LEGACY. WE FIND NIEMEYER'S OTHER WORDLY EYE TO BE TIMELESS AND AN ENDLESS SOURCE OF DESIGN INSPIRATION… Oscar Niemeyer- Alvorada Brasilian Presidential Palace

WITH A SEXY AND UNEXPECTEDLY FEMININE POINT OF VIEW, NIEMEYER REBELS AGAINST THE TYPICAL MODERNIST TRADITIONS OF FORM FOLLOWING FUNCTION, INSISTING INSTEAD THAT FOR HIM, “FORM FOLLOWS BEAUTY.”

O. Neimeyer Staircase

HIS WORK IS A STUDY IN GRACEFULLY CURVED LINES THAT SEEM TO DEFY GRAVITY. THE FUTURISTIC AND SPARSE PANORAMA OF HIS MOST FAMOUS CREATION, THE CAPITOL CITY OF BRASILIA, HAS BECOME THE VISUAL DEFINITION FOR UTOPIA.

Brasilia Oscar Neimeyer

BUILT IN 41 MONTHS, FROM 1956 TO 1960, THE CITY IS STILL LOOKED UPON AS AN ARCHITECTURAL MASTERPIECE AND A SYMBOL FROM THE HEIGHT OF THE MODERNIST MOVEMENT.
