Catching Dreams...

Francesca Vannucci

A NATIVE AMERICAN LEGEND, THE DREAM CATCHER WILL FILTER OUT BAD DREAMS AND ONLY ALLOW GOOD THOUGHTS TO ENTER YOUR MIND. CALIFORNIA JEWELRY DESIGNERS JERRY FELS AND CURTIS FREILER APPLIED THEIR TECHNIQUE FOR DELICATE METAL WORK TO HOME DESIGN UNDER THE MONIKER C. JERE. THEIR WORK IS HAVING A RESURGENCE IN POPULARITY, AND THE INTRICATE DESIGNS HAVE BECOME COVETED COLLECTIBLES.

La Spiral

Francesca Vannucci

LA SPIRAL BY LOUIS DUROT IS A STUDY IN MOVEMENT AND GRACEFUL SENSUALITY. RECALLING THE ICONIC WORK OF FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT'S GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM, AN ARCHITECTURAL MASTERPIECE FAMOUS FOR ITS ABILITY TO CAPTURE BOTH THE ORGANIC QUALITY OF NATURE, REFLECTING A NAUTILUS IN ITS SPIRALING LAYERS, AND MODERNIST GEOMETRIC PRECISION. THE BEAUTY OF EACH STRUCTURE PERFECTLY SERVES ITS FUNCTION… THE SCULPTURAL FORM OF THE CHAIR IS SURPRISINGLY COMFORTABLE, WHILE THE CURVING ROTUND OF THE GUGGENHEIM CREATES CONTINUITY IN THE VIEWERS EXPERIENCE.

INTRICATE CARVINGS OF CREATURES IN RELIEF, GILDED AND GLAMOROUS – A PAIR OF DOVES CARRYING LAURELS OF PEACE, SPHINXES IN REPOSE UNDER A DATE PALM AND GRIFFONS PRESENTING A PINEAPPLE, THE UNIVERSAL SYMBOL OF HOSPITALITY. THE FULL IMPACT AND SCALE OF THIS 19TH CENTURY MIRROR NEEDS TO BE EXPERIENCED IN PERSON… BUT THE DETAILS ARE LUSCIOUS, EVEN IN PICTURES.

Sea Things

Francesca Vannucci

CHARLES AND RAY EAMES BELIEVED THAT SMALL OBJECTS WERE IMPORTANT TO A SENSE OF WELL-BEING AT HOME, AND THAT QUALITY AND CRAFTSMANSHIP OF EVEN THE MOST COMMON HOME ACCESSORIES IS ESSENTIAL. THE SEA MOTIF OF GOLD CREATURES FLOATING ON A BACKGROUND OF BLUE, WAS ORIGINALLY CREATED BY RAY EAMES FOR A TEXTILE CONTEST, AND WAS THEN USED IN 1944 FOR A SERIES OF TRAYS CREATED BY EAMES AND FELLOW DESIGNERS ALEXANDER GIRARD AND GEORGE NELSON.

INFLUENTIAL FIGURES OF 20TH CENTURY DESIGN, WITH A LEGACY THAT INCLUDES ICONIC FURNISHINGS AND ARCHITECTURE – IT’S THE ‘LITTLE THINGS’ THAT CAPTURE THE IMAGINATION, LIKE AN ORIGINAL ‘SEA THINGS’ TRAY, SO PERFECTLY SUMMER.
